There are many unauthorised structures present in CRZ or Coastal Regulation Zone-3 in the Chennai city and these 548 unauthorised structures in CRZ-3 in Chennai are making news. The GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has given show cause notices to the owners of these structures.

Villages in the places such as Uthandi, Sholinganallur and Injambakkam come under CRZ-3 in Chennai city and this is as per the CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority data.

Enumeration of the residential buildings plus heritage structures and other constructions in the above mentioned villages in those three places has been carried out by both CMDA and Chennai Corporation. According to a Chennai corporation source the court also ordered them to conduct a survey.

Building owners in the places like Uthandi and Sholinganallur have been sent notices by the corporation of Chennai. These owners must submit planning permission plus approvals availed during the construction and this was according to the notices.  According to an official all the buildings are single storied and they come under the purview of the corporation.

On Monday 19th march 2018, CMDA and Corporation of Chennai surveyed Injambakkam in Chennai and they found as many as 220 structures in the regulation zone.

It must be noted that there should not be any construction within 200 metres except for repairs of existing authorised structures. This is as per the CRZ-3 norms.

Ministry of environment and forests must give prior approval for the constructions between 200 metres to 500 metres. To change CRZ-3 areas to CRZ-2 areas, the state government has requested the central government so that the building owners would get some relief.
