State Government Announces Job for Fishermens

The Tamil Nadu State government has announced that selected fishermen`s affected by the Kattupalli port and ship-building units and the desalination plants in Pulicat region, will be offered jobs and training in a phased manner.Our Chief Minister J.Jayalalitha announced that as per the July 2010 agreement a total of 170 people from various project-affected fishing villages ought to have been given jobs.

She added that TIDCO, which holds 3% share in the 4,000-crore project, would function as a bridge between the L&T Limited and the local fisher communities. L&T would provide jobs to 120 people, of whom 60 would be directly employed by the company, while the remaining would be given training with a monthly stipend of 6,000 to be employed by the company in due course.

L&T will complete its training facility at Kattupalli in three months, and the centre would train 600 fishermen in batches, so as to get employment opportunity in the company. And moreover state government had allotted Rs.71 lakhs for the welfare of the victims.and she added that On the basis of education and training of the local fishermen they would be accommodated in various departments, including the Tamil Nadu Special Youth Police Force.
