Travelling by flights saves the precious time of the people and these people prefer flights for that reason. The people who travel by flights have been paying UDF or user development fee at Chennai International Airport is known. This wont be there in the future.

It is now revealed that AAI or airport authority of India has got suggestions from the airports tariff regulator regarding this fee being collected from the travellers and it is said that this fee wont be collected from next year onwards.

It must be noted that AERA or Airport Economic Regulatory Authority of India put forward that AAI discontinue this fees. The reason cited was it did not utilize the money in the development of the airport in the past five years of time. UDF or user development fee collected by AAI annually was between Rs 250 crores and Rs 300 crores and this was confirmed later.

It is worthy to mention that the UDF collected was Rs 667 from the flyers heading to international places and Rs 166 was collected as fees from those going to domestic destinations. This UDF amount may not be a huge problem for the flyers because of the hourly fluctuations of thousands of rupees they have to contend with. This UDF has become an important issue for AERA, operators plus travellers in many airports in India. One important piece of news is AERA recommendation for airport in Chennai was because of AAI application to revise or extend the fees till the year 2021.

Depending on the investment in the airport an operator must revise this UDF every five years of time is known. It is clear that AAI did not make any new investment in the airport recently. It was in the year 2013 this AAI steel as well as glass installations were put in both domestic and international terminals.
