Fire and safety audit in the temples in Tamil Nadu

Recently popular Goddess Meenakshi Amman Temple of Madurai grabbed the eyeballs of many.  In this temple there was a big fire accident and it shocked many devotees and the people in the state of TN. It is known that for special grade temples in TN there would be fire and safety audit.

The latest news that has emerged now is TN Kovil Pusarigal Nala Sangam has demanded that all the temples belonging to HR & CE or Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments must have this fire and safety audit done.

Mr P. Vasu state president of Kovil Pusarigal Nala Sangam shared his thoughts and said fire and safety audit must be made compulsory for all the 38000 temples that come under this HR & CE.

He also spoke about the recent fire accident that took place in the highly popular Goddess Meenakshi Amman temple of Madurai and said these types of fire accidents could take place in any temple.

He further spoke about the manpower and facilities of the temples and said Madurai based Goddess Meenakshi Amman temple has got those in huge amount but other temples don�t have those similar to Madurai temple.

Mr. Vasu further added that auditing must be done by an independent agency and it must not come under the chief minister control. He threw light on the presence of fire fighting equipments in the temples and said steps must be taken in this regard. He also commented about how periodic inspection done by the senior officials would be useful.

Mr Vasu expressed his opinion about the temples located in the remote places and said enough precautionary steps must be taken to prevent fire accidents in those temples also. He finally spoke about how financial allocation for the provision of fire fighting equipment in the temples should be given by the government.
