There are many water bodies present in the Corporation of Chennai limits and the news that has come out now is on Wednesday 14th of February 2018 Corporation of Chennai has approved the restoration of  32 such water bodies. It must be noted that the proposal was made by Chennai Smart City regarding this restoration.

One important point to be noted is this is the first time the civic body would be restoring small lakes plus other ponds present within the expanded areas and that would be superb.

There are many government buildings in Chennai and it is now said that smart city board gave its approval to install roof top solar panels on those buildings.

According to a senior official belonging to Chennai smart city the water bodies such as Villivakkam lake, Manali based water bodies plus tanks present in Thiruvottriyur, ponds located along the IT corridor would be benefitted by this restoration.

It is important to mention that there are as many as 200 water bodies in Chennai city and now 32 of those have been identified and they would be restored.

For this restoration of water bodies funds play important role. It is now revealed that these funds would be got from CSR activities of corporate companies plus logistical support from the city based corporation.

Time frame would be fixed from next month for this restoration of water bodies and this process would be carried out in a phased manner.

In order to maintain these water bodies after they get restored smart city board would also reach out to many volunteers and NGOs and this restoration work would be made as public oriented.

An official expressed his thoughts regarding this restoration and said Villivakkam tank restoration would be the first major work in this aspect and slowly this module would be extended to other Chennai based water bodies.

This official later threw light on projects such as pedestrian plaza, multi storey parking lot plus on road development works in T. Nagar area. He said there was no delay in smart city schemes in T. Nagar. Formulation of guidelines plus studying of the projects are going on.

According to the sources tenure of Mr. Venkaiah Naidu as urban development minister was superb because in his time smart city projects were reviewed periodically and there were inspections and conferences regarding this. It must be noted that now the enthusiasm for the centre sponsored scheme is not there unlike in the past.
