The central government has categorically informed that it has no plans to print new currency notes of Rs. 1000. During November 2016, it was announced that the currency notes of the prevailing Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 currency notes will no longer be valid.
Subsequently, fresh currency notes of Rs. 500 and Rs. 2000 were printed and circulated. Recently, new currency notes of Rs. 200 have been released in circulation. The central finance minister Arun Jaitley informed that the central government has no plans to withdraw the currency notes of Rs. 2000.
Meanwhile, a rumour that new currency notes of Rs. 1000 will be printed was being circulated. In an effort to put a full stop to this rumour, the secretary of the central economic affairs, Subhash Chandra Garg, informed that the central government has no plans at all to print and circulate the currency notes of Rs. 1000 again. With this, it is confirmed that currency notes of Rs. 1000 will not be printed and circulated.
