When the Paris climate accord was pull out by the Us President Donald Trump, the entire world was put in shock. It may be that Trump preserves his belief as a Chinese hoax. This is however not the case because there are a lot of burnt of environmental crisis that have started. Chennai is among the examples which has seen a lot of natural calamities in the recent years: drought, flood, heavy rain showers, wind, etc.
Scientists and meteorologists say that the city is experiencing changes in climate. Chennai is getting way too hotter and wetter. Between 2004 and 2011, Chennai has been receiving excessive downpour. There was 60 percent more rainfall than normal in a few of these years.
A retired director general of India Meteorological Department states that it was unprecedented record that began in 1870. He further adds that this is an effect of urbanization and it has its impact on climate.
The atmospheric carbon level is gradually increasing with more coal, diesel and petrol being burnt. This will in turn increase temperature of sea surface, say scientists. This increase in carbon emission has its effect in increasing sea surface temperature. The land will reflect heat and sea will absorb it in general. With more carbon release, there is more heat trapped, say Professor A. Ramachandran, Anna University`s Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation Research.
