Chennai Silks demolition to take longer despite reopening of stores

South Usman Road is finally opened after 4 long days of the fire outbreak in renowned textile store, Chennai Silks. The road is now open for pedestrians and sales got resumed in all the major outlets in the area. However, flyover continues to remain shut.
 
So far, just 30 percent of demolition work is over, because workmen could access only the rear side of the building. Reports state that more equipment are taken to the spot to carry out the work.
 
While there were 4 jaw cutters used at the spot, there were 2 more brought in addition on the Pinjala Subramaniam Street. The demolition will wrap up in another 3 more days, however it may take a week to complete the entire work.
 
Balancing the vehicles on debris-made ramp is difficult. There were reports of fire even on Sunday.
 
So far, just 10 percent of the demolition is done. Only after continuing works on Monday, today, we shall be able to give an estimate about the overall time, says a workman at the spot.
 
Since Wednesday, all the stores on South Usman Road are ordered to stay shut. In spite of opening the shops, there was way too less crowd as compared to other weekends.
 
One of the jewelry shop owner at Usman Road says the association of shops in Usman Road had allowed reopening of the store, but there was meagre buyers.
 
The police had cordoned off the stretch between Khazana Jewellers and Saravana Selvarathnam.
