Efforts on for world heritage status to St. George Fort
The Union government will make efforts to get Fort St. George in Chennai and Rangthanaswamy Temple, Srirangam, declared as World Heritage Monuments.
 
Union Culture Minister Kumari Selja, told reporters here on Sunday(14October,2012). Kazhugumalai, Pulicat Lake near Chennai,and Chettinad palace were the other sites that would be recommended by the Union Ministry to the UNESCO, 

The Union Minister sought the support of local authorities and people in getting the world heritage monument status for these places.
