which stopped releasing Cauvery water from its reservoir to the state on Monday night. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa took the decision to move the contempt plea against Karnataka at a high-level meeting at the state secretariat on Today morning.

The Supreme Court ordered Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs water to Tamil Nadu from September 20 to October 15 as per the instruction of Cauvery River Authority (CRA) headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

After the court order, Karanataka started releasing water from September 29 and stopped it unilaterally last night (08Oct,2012)

Stating that Karnataka stopping the release of Cauvery water abruptly amounted to undermining the federal principles and dis-respecting the Supreme Court order, the state government has decided to file the contempt petition against the neigbouring Karnataka to ensure state`s rightful share of Cauvery water.
