On today�s special occasion of the celebration of Women�s Day, it is definitely worthwhile knowing the Laws pertaining to women.
Here is a chronological list of the various laws enacted pertaining to the women:
1925 � Under the India Inheritance Law, property rights were accorded to wives and daughters.
1929 � Child Marriage Prevention Law was enacted.
1955 � As per the wedding law, the marriage age of the girls was fixed at 17 and later (presently), it has been revised as 21.
1956 � Inheritance Law � The daughters in the family are given rights to the property of the parents.
1956 � Windows remarriage Act � The act approving the remarriage of widows was passed.
1961 � Child-birth welfare Law � these facilitated women to take leave during the delivery period with wages.
1961 � Dowry Prevention Act � The act giving jail sentence for those who ask and get dowry was enacted. It was revised in 1984.
1986 � Act preventing women shown in an obscene manner
1989 � Inheritance Law � Equal share of ancestral/parental properties for women
1990 � Women�s National Law
1994 � Act regarding the gender identification of the child in the womb and prevention of female child infant foeticide
2005 � Protection for women from family violence
2013 � Prevention of sexual harassment of women in the workplace
