Even now the old notes can be exchanged.

The central reserve bank has recently announced a new facility to exchange the old notes exclusively for the Indian Citizens residing abroad.

The old notes can be exchanged in the Reserve Bank Offices from 10.00 AM to 2.30 PM from Monday to Friday.

The deadline for this facility is fixed as 30th June for the Indians staying abroad.

What documents are required for exchanging the old notes?

Copy of the passport

Identity Proofs: Aadhar Card

Copy of PAN Card

A copy of the bank savings accounts transactions from 8th November 2016 to 30th December 2016.

Who are the people who cannot use this facility?

Indians who hold foreign citizenship, Indian generations settled abroad, and the Indians who reside in Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan,

There is a maximum limit for exchange - only up to Rs. 25000/-.

Even while coming from abroad to India, cash up to Rs. 25000 can be transacted in the customs toll gate. To be more particular, even if you are giving more than Rs. 25000/-, say Rs. 1 Lakh, you can get only Rs. 25000/-
