For the first time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister to unfurl the National Flag

On the occasion of the Republic Day celebrations, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam will unfurl the flag at Marina Beach and accept the honours of the Republic Day parade.
The 68th Republic day of India will be celebrated throughout the country on 26th January. On behalf of Tamil Nadu State Government, the Republic day celebrations will be held near Gandhi statue on Marina Beach.
The Governor will unfurl the National Flag in the temporary flag mast set up there and accept the honours from the armed, naval and air force. Moreover there will be parade of vehicles of various departments of Tamil Nadu government and there will also be cultural programmes of ther school children.
As of now there is no permanent Governor in Tamil Nadu. C H Vidyasagar Rao who is now temporarily in charge of Tamil Nadu is the Governor of Maharashtra. On the Republic Day, he will be unfurling the flag there. In view of this, for the first time in Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister will unfurl the flag.
