Southwest monsoon rains withdraw on 30th October and the northeast monsoon set in. Though the monsoon set in late, heavy rainfall was expected but there was only sporadic rainfall in some places.
Speaking about this, S B Thambi, Deputy Director General, Regional Meteorological Centre said: Though the northeast monsoon began long ago, there was no heavy rainfall. It has happened earlier also. I also want the rains. Rainfall situation could drastically change if there was sustained rainfall for a couple of days. But, it is expected that the next 4-5 days will largely be dry, as no major rainfall activity during the period has been forecast.
An official of the Meteorological Centre while mentioned the reason for no rainfall said: There is no humidity in the clouds that hover in the southern districts. That is the reason for no rainfall. As in the case of the cyclone KYANT, they have gone northwards eluding our shore taking the dampness.
