A study published by Centre for Technology Innovation, Brookings Institution says 22 internet shutdowns that occurred in India between 2015 to 2016 costs the country�s economy an astonishing cost of Rs 6000 Crores.
Centre for Technology Innovation, Brookings Institution has made a study on short-term shutdowns that occurred in 19 countries between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016.
The study says: There was 81 short-term shutdowns in 18 countries over the past year. There was internet shutdown in India for 22 times, in Iraq for 22 times, in Syria 8 times and in Pakistan 6 times. On various occasions, there was ban on internet for 71 days which resulted in a loss of Rs 6414 Crores. If the government loss is included it will be Rs 6500 Crores. Similarly in Saudi Arabia, there was a loss of Rs 3000 Crores and in Morocco there was a loss of Rs 2000 Crores.
