Aadhar card distribution freezes as IT issues disrupt

Posted on: 04/Oct/2016 4:07:10 PM
In spite of handing over the responsibility of distributing Aadhar cards in the hands of state government of Tamil Nadu, there is still a delay in the work for technical issues in the process.

As per the National Population Register (NPR), the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has joined hands with Bengaluru based BHEL electronics and produces Aadhar cards. Now, the responsibility is handed over to the Tamil Nadu government itself, but the works have so far not started.

Issues in the process

In their statement about this, information technology experts state that Tamil Nadu has 7.65 crore population as per statistical reports taken in 2015. Out of this, 1.20 crore people have not received the Aadhar card yet.

Until recently, BHEL Company has been collecting the Aadhar card details and they forward it to the IT department, but now, there are technical troubles.

Bharat Heavy Electricals, BHEL took away the Aadhar applicant details collected until 30th September, and they also took laptops and iris scanning machines. Hence, the IT department has requested for 1500 such machines to the government. Further, the password for each and every Aadhar card centre is not given yet. BHEL had stored all Aadhar details in CDs and they update it in the server later. Due to loss of a few such CDs, thousands of applicants have so far not received Aadhar card.
