Central government warning to cable TV operators showing unauthorized channels

Posted on: 12/Jul/2016 6:23:27 PM
The central government has issued a warning that action will be taken on the cable TV operators who telecast unauthorized channels.

A brief on the press release by Press Information Bureau (PIB):

The central government ministry of Information and telecasting has asked all the districts to monitor the cable TV operators in their districts whether they telecast unauthorized TV channels.

The ministry has issued orders to the district administration to initiate immediate legal action on these cable TV operators to stop these telecasts immediately.

As per the Cable TV Act 6(6), immediate legal action must be taken on those who violate this regulation.

The central government has instructed all the state governments to set up monitoring squads to check on the channels that are telecast by cable TV operators.

Following complaints and reports that programmes which incite religious struggles and terrorism-based violence are telecast, the central government has taken stringent action as above. Particularly, the central government has not permitted to download the Peace TV channel.

Cable TV Act 6(6) is explicit that any channel not authorized by the central government should not be telecast in the areas within the boundaries of the country.

The central governments website mib.nic.in has listed the entire 892 private satellite channels that are authorized to telecast.
