Free Wi-Fi facility in bus stops and parks in all 32 districts in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had give a promise during the election campaign to set up Wi-Fi facility in public places.

Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Company has commenced activities on this project. It has been planned to commence free Wi-Fi facility from the month of September.

The government officials explained that in the 1st Phase, Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Company has planned to set up free Wi-Fi facility in the capitals of all 32 districts.

The free Wi-Fi facility would be set up in places like bus terminus or bus-stops, and parks, where the public gathers.

The company has invited tenders from the agencies to execute this project. Invitations have been sent to agencies which supply related equipment such as server and data.

There are prospects to start the system in September. The tenders would be decided during the 2nd week of August. The project will start in all the district capitals initially and later on in other parts of all 32 districts in the coming years.

The facility to introduce free Wi-Fi facility in more places would be decided on the usage and popularity with the public after completion of the 1st phase.

Free WiFi is given to the public. However, certain regulations have been imposed by Tamil Nadu Arasu TV company. Free Wi-Fi would be available only for a limited period of time.

Exploration of methods to prevent the excessive usage of Wi-Fi facility from a single place has been taken up.
