The member of the Khadi and Village Industries Council, Mr. Chandramouli, informed that a sales centre for khadi and handicraft items would be put up in Chennai Airport shortly.

A fund allotment programme has been set up for increasing the revenue of village residents and to renovate the traditional crafts.
Under this scheme, around 800 trade communities are to be encouraged and renovated.
The scheme requires a minimum of 150 beneficiaries. There are 3 categories – small, middle, and traditional trade communities.Depending on the strength of the trade community, subsidies ranging from Rs. 1.5 Crores to Rs. 8 Crores would be given.
In the state of Tamil Nadu, it has been planned to set up at least 2 trade communities in each district, making for a total 64 trade communities in the 32 districts. Priority is being accorded to setting up trade communities in the areas where the ancient tribes reside.
A trading community dealing with items made of wood and iron has been set up in Salem.
It has been planned to open sales counter of Khadi and handicraft items in all airports.
Recently, a sales counter for khadi and handicraft items was inaugurated at the Visakhapatnam Airport.
