Panel criticised Samacheer Kalvi books

The committee appointed to examine the school syllabus criticised the quality of Samacheer Kalvi books and recommended not to use Samacheer Kalvi textbooks for the current academic year.
The committee said this in its report submitted to the Madras High Court on Tuesday.
In its nearly 600-page report submitted to the High Court on Tuesday, the panel said, �The Samacheer Kalvi textbooks cannot be used for the academic year 2011-12 as they require a lot of alterations, modifications and changes in order to provide good quality education to all the children in the State of Tamil Nadu.�
With schools having reopened a month ago, the wait for students now in limbo without prescribed textbooks, is likely to continue with the hearing in the case to commence on July 7.
The committee said the textbooks require a lot of alterations, modifications and changes. The common syllabus also has to be reviewed as per the norms of National Curriculum Framework, it added.
