From April 1 with the toll fee being revised for 21 plazas in Tamil Nadu by three per cent will be making travelling on highways costly. According to National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), highways coming under the purview of revision include Chennai - Bengaluru, Chennai - Tiruchirapalli and Tiruchirapalli - Karaikudi roads. This year, the revision in toll charges would be between two and three per cent. It will be effective from April 1.
The rates for the annual revision are calculated on the basis of wholesale price index (WPI). It is 40 per cent of the increase or decrease in the WPI to which a mandatory three per cent increase is added.
The cost of structures including bridges, culverts and drains are added to the fee.
