Several trains were delayed in Tamil Nadu following heavy rain in Dindigul district on Sunday night.
Due to wheel-slip (lack of friction between the track and the wheel),trains running on the Kodai Road - Ambathurai upline towards Chennai and Vadamadurai - Kalpattichathiram downline towards Madurai, railway authorities imposed speed restriction of 15 kmph in a 10km stretch between Kodai Road and Ambathurai on the upline.
All the trains leaving Madurai after 11pm had suffered up to three hours delay, railway officials said.
Anantapuri Express, Madurai - Dehradun/Chandigarh Express, Tiruchendur - Chennai Egmore Express and Nagercoil - Bengaluru Express were delayed by three hours.
Chennai Egmore - Kanyakumari Express, Coimbatore - Nagercoil Express, Chennai Egmore - Tiruchendur Express and other south-bound trains running on the downline were delayed by 30 minutes.
A railway official informed, �Officials will inspect the track in the morning, and accumulated rain water will be pumped out. After thorough inspection, speed restriction will be lifted".
