Soon, book season local train tickets using mobile app

The season tickets for Chennai`s suburban trains will be paperless soon. This will help commuters who, from now, will not need to stand in long queues and go through the tiresome process of getting paperwork done right. Instead, passengers can now download the paperwork on their mobile phones. They can use the UTS mobile app for the purpose. The app already enables booking tickets for suburban and MRTS trains.
Speaking about this, an official said, Commuters will be able to simply key in their identity card number and download the season ticket of their choice. There will be no need to upload any document. It is going to be a onetime payment so the geofencing feature of the app which prevents booking of tickets near stations or inside stations will not apply . Commuters will be able to buy their season tickets from anywhere and show it to the ticket checker when demanded.
Commuters are happy with the change. The system will be convenient for young commuters, especially students, and those who use smartphones.Most commuters dislike going to a counter and standing in queue. Initially , the railways insisted that commuters should submit documents. This has now been waived in Chennai, they say.
