Posted on: 23/Oct/2015 12:47:37 PM
The Tamil Nadu government has started to take measures to control dengue in the wake of the upcoming monsoons. They have approached schools and colleges for volunteers to help clear waste in the city. Teams comprising of 50 members each have been visiting areas that are vulnerable to the breeding of the Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes that cause dengue.

Deaths due to dengue have reached 5 in number from the 2,536 cases reported this year in Tamil Nadu. An official from the public health department said, `At the household level, the incidence is largely in check owing to a series of awareness program. The teams of volunteers and workers will visit large campuses like bus depots, factories, railway yards and abandoned buildings to remove waste, including broken plastic containers and tyres that breed these mosquitoes. We are working with the Chennai Corporation to constitute a team for each zone. The exercise of removing waste will begin at 7am and go on till 5pm.`
