TRAI to announce policy on call drops

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its final recommendations on the call drop issue. They are expected to give out the policy today. One such recommendation is expected to be the compensation of Re. 1 to consumers who experience call drops.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced recently that the issue is a serious one and that it should be looked into and corrected. However, Mumbai and Delhi, among other cities, are still experiencing call drops. According to officials, In Mumbai, none of the operators are meeting the prescribed benchmark, there is marginal improvement in some of the operators, while in Delhi some of the operators have improved the benchmark and three operators are still not meeting the benchmark... The government has taken all major policy initiatives needed for the sector like spectrum sharing and trading norms and now telcos should improve their system. The spectrum sharing and trading guidelines are in place.
