The prices of pulses up by 75% in the last 1 year!

The statistics released from the Central Government`s Consumer Affairs Department reveals that the prices of pulses have gone up by 75% in the last 1 year period.
 
Bengal-gram, black-gram, and green-gram prices have gone up by Rs. 100/- per kg. On the contrary, pulse production in India has gone down by 20 Lakh Tons in the last 1 year.
 
The production of pulses stood at 1.92 Crore Tons last year. However, it has come down to 1.72 Crore Tons during this year.
 
In the scenario that India is the No.#1 in the world in pulse production and with the onset of festive season, the demand for the pulses has been increasing. With the central government having increased the import of pulses, MMTC has floated a tender for import of 100 tons of dried peas and chick-peas.
