Indias stand in Internet use

India stands first in being the country with about 65 percent of users who access the web from their mobile devices and in fact, 50 percent of their searches are made through them.

In a recently concluded digital summit, most of the top executives from Google, Flipkart, Facebook, Snapdeal, Cisco, and others stressed that the growth of internet will be surged by the mobile phones. This summit involved discussion of strategies and digital trends by analytics solutions and astute policy makers. 

Nitin Bawankule, IIMB alumnus and Director, e-Commerce, Google, said India has about 300 million internet users. With this, the nation stands second largest internet population. Nearly half of the searches made in the web are made through mobile phones. This will certainly increase the growth of internet. 

By the end of 2020, about 500 million smart phone users are likely to be in India, says a report by Ericson. Of this population, about half of them will shop online. The online retail market was pegged at $ 4.5 billion in 2014 and this is likely to grow up to $75 billion in 2020, he added. 

He also said that India will never go online in the next decade, but will stay online all the time. He stressed the students from marketing and sales streams to leverage technology, data and strategy. He added that the social and economic life of Indians have totally changed with the advent of internet. 

Previously, it was the male in the family who used to control the PC or laptop. However, with the proliferation of smart phones, the scenario has totally changed. We are a nation with many challenges in terms of infrastructure. Hence, the entire way of working, and earning have changed with the digital technology. This has paved way for the marketers to enjoy huge opportunities.
