New desalination plant in Chennai at a cost of Rs 1371 Crores

Tamil Nadu Government is taking lots of steps to manage the water scarcity in Chennai. One such step is setting up of desalination plant. Making the announcement in the state Assembly on Friday, minister for municipal administration S.P.Velumani said the state government had taken effective steps to set up a 400 MLD desalination plant at Perur at a cost of about Rs 4,070 crore and an additional desalination plant with a capacity of 150 MLD at Nemmeli at a cost of Rs 1,371 crore.
The Union urban development ministry has sent the Perur project proposal for Japan International Cooperation Agency`s approval. The state government hopes that JICA would soon finalise the financial assistance and work would start soon.
