Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has mentioned that the Tamil Nadu Government has decided to offer cheaper and quality broadband service to 12,254 village panchayats. This is offered under the scheme called Internet in every house. All the villages will be connected through optical fibre.
This project will be taken up under Digital India programme. The scheme will be implemented by Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL) under the Ministry of Communication and IT and executed by Railtel Corporation with the support of the Tamil Nadu Government.
This connectivity would facilitate delivery of citizen-centric services on real time basis at a faster speed. National Optical Fibre Network was conceptualised by the Govt of India in the year 2012.
