Prospects of rains with thunder in Tamil Nadu today - 12th September

With the recently formed thermal convection in the upper layers of atmosphere, there have been good rains in Tamil Nadu. During the same period, South-west monsoon has intensified in North Karnataka, Andhra, Kerala, etc.
An official from Chennai Meteorological Centre informed that there has been good rains in Tamil Nadu over the last few days due to the thermal convection. For the period from June till September, 32 cm of rainfall has been recorded in Tamil Nadu. However, this still falls 4% short as compared to the average expected rainfall.
In the next 24 hours (today, Saturday, 12th September), there may be rains with thunder in the evenings and/or night in a few places in Tamil Nadu. Chennai Metro city is likely to have rains in a few places in the evening.
