Election commission to prepare voters list

The voters list comprising all the 5 crore and 68 lakh voters in Tamil Nadu will be released on 15th of this month. A special camp for inclusion or deletion of names from the voters list will take place on 20th of September and 4th of October.
The voters list is getting ready for all the 16 assembly constituencies including Chennai. This includes about 38 lakh voters. 55 new polling booths are also to be set up in Chennai. The election commission has also given its nod to revamp the 1400 polling booths as per which the revamping works are on the go. All polling booths with large number of voters are split to those with very less numbers. The polling booths required in addition will then be added later.
On the whole, combining the 3624 polling booths in existence and 55 additional booths, there will be a sum of 3679 polling booths totally. Furthermore, 75,000 votes are added and 75,000 voters are removed from the voters list.
On 15th of this month, the voters list will be released and applications for addition or removal of names will be received between 10th and 15th of this month.
Following these procedures, the final voters list will be announced on 11th of January 2016. These works are being speeded up by the election commission in order to add names of voters who turn 18 as of 1st of January 2016.
