New system for Passport Tatkal application introduced

Tatkal system for obtaining passport urgently was introduced for the people who want to leave the country urgently. Earlier these applications were accepted at the three passport seva kendras (PSK) functioning in the city.
Regional passport officer K Balamurugan said that the applicants filing for passports under the tatkal category has to approach to the regional passport office at Rayala Towers on Anna Salai in Chennai from August 17.
The new system was introduced mainly to decongest the PSKs. The verification of various documents takes a lot of time, and in the case of tatkal applications, additional documents needed to be verified. This resulted in congestion at the PSKs. Hence it was decided to shift the Tatkal application submission to the main office on Anna Salai.
