Chennai Corporation to levy penalty for late registration of death and birth

So far the Chennai Corporation does not collect any penalty for delayed registration of death and birth by people. Now it has been ordered to collect penalties from the people who delay in registering the birth or death. The Chennai Corporation has been issuing birth and death certificates for the people who are born or die in Chennai. Applicants use to download the birth or death certificates from the Chennai Corporation�s website.
The birth or death should be registered within 21 days. There is a provision that a penalty can be levied for late registration. 15 years back, instructions were given orally not to collect any penalty even if there is delay. Till now the officials of Chennai Corporation have been following this.
Now it has been ordered to collect fines for the delay. Though there is no official communications regarding this, it has been ordered orally. Fees to be collected are as under:
