Indian Railways and Indian Army 8th and 9th largest employers in the world

According to research published by the World Economic Forum, the Indian Railways is the 8th largest employer in the world, followed by the Indian Armed Forces at no. 9. The Railways employ 1.4 million people and the Army 1.3 million.
The report dispels the common belief that the Indian Railways has been the leading employer in the world. The research shows that the world�s biggest employer is the U.S. Department of Defense with 3.2 million employees, followed by People�s Liberation Army (the Chinese military) with 2.3 million.
In 3rd place is Walmart (2.1 million), 4th is Macdonald�s (1.9 million), 5th is U.K.�s National Health Service (1.7 million) and 6th is China National Petroleum Corporation (1.6 million).
