Around 1000 buyers who bought Uniech flats constructed at Nallambakkam, lying 7 km from Vandalur, 4 years ago. The flats are still not read and the buyers are in real soup.
The flat buyers are from all over the country and include NRIs as well.
They held a protest in front of the Unitech office at the construction site at Nallambakkam on Sunday, 31st May.
Unitech is constructing the Uniworld City that includes more than 3,000 flats on a 250-acre land. The township project involves about 1,024 2BHK and 600 3BHK flats, with most of them supposed to be completed by 2011.
The 700sqft 2BHKs and 950sqft 3BHKs are being sold at Rs.26 lakh and Rs.36 lakh respectively, at Rs 3,150 per square feet.
The house buyers have formed the Unitech Unihome Buyers association.
They are apprehensive about further delays.
It seems that only 350 houses have been handed over to the buyers so far.
However, Unitech claims it has handed over 700 houses.
The contract signed allows a monthly compensation from Unitech in case of delay in construction.
Buyers have been allotted only Rs 5 per square feet for every month of delay, whereas the same builder has offered Rs 17 to its house buyers in a project in Delhi.
The buyers demand completion before December 2016. However, there might be a delay!
Unitech explains that it is still trying to expedite the project which was delayed due to several reasons including rising cost of building materials.
