Today (3rd April) is the most important day for Christians because it is Good Friday. Good Friday is observed on the Friday before Easter Sunday. On this day Christians commemorate the passion, or suffering, and death on the cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Many Christians spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance, and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the cross.
During the middle Ages, a popular devotion known as the Way of the Cross was started. During Lent the Passion, Crucifixion and Death of Jesus were retraced. The last seven statements of Jesus on the cross are called the Seven Words and the first of them is a phenomenal teaching of Christ: Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.
The cross is a symbol for making amends and reminds us of Gods love in sacrificing his son for humanity. Jesus died on the cross for our sins, so that we might be forgiven. He sacrificed himself and thus demonstrated the greatest love of all. The cross represents Jesus victory over sin and death since through his death and resurrection he conquered death itself.
Today morning the Way of the Cross was held in the Divine Mercy Church at Anna Nagar East. The Holy Cross procession began at 8.00 AM from Mithra grounds. The procession reached Divine Mercy Church. After this the Way of the Cross was enacted in a spectacular manner. The procession was led by Rev Fr Richard Amalanathan SSP.
