Increase in supply of subsidized cylinders

It is observed that there is an increase in supply of gas cylinders without subsidies in Tamil Nadu. The state currently has about 1 crore and 50 lakh individuals using gas cylinders for their cooking needs. Out of this population, most of them purchase cylinders a price for Rs 404.50. Now, most people are migrating towards government�s direct subsidy scheme. Amidst these, the direct subsidy scheme is to be closed by the end of this month.
In direct subsidy scheme, the extra amount received from the customer at the time of delivering the cylinder, in addition to Rs 404.50 will be deposited to the customer�s bank account directly. Those who have not registered with the subsidy scheme need to purchase cylinders at market price from now on.
Amidst these, the central government and oil companies have requested direct subsidy customers to give out the subsidized cylinders to them. Accordingly, few customers have agreed too, and they make use of cylinders purchased at market rate. Speaking about this, one of the officials of Indian Oil Corporation said supply of subsidized cylinders is hugely increased in Tamil Nadu. He also added that the count will further increase after April.
