Soon get generic medicines at affordable prices

Health Secretary V.K. Subburaj, speaking about offering affordable generic medicines to the public, said that central government will soon make an announcement regarding it.
A conference was held yesterday under the title �drugs pricing commission and consumers� on behalf of consumer association of India (CAI).
Excerpts from speech by V.K. Subburaj:
Medicines are broadly classified into two types which are generic and branded. In convention, generic medicines that are available at cheap rates are converted into branded ones and sold at high price. Over 50 per cent doctors do not prescribe medicines of generic type, instead they recommend and prescribe high priced branded medicines. Owing to this price, patients with diabetes and other most common diseases are hugely affected.
India stands first in exporting medicines to overseas nations. Medicines worth Rs 1 lakh crore are exported from India to various other nations. Hence, as a step to make available all the generic medicines to the public at nominal price ranges, central government is at the verge of making an announcement regarding it, he pointed.
Hopefully this move will comfort the public with their most needed medicines at cheap rates falling within their budget.
