The government employees have been barred from using private e-mail addresses/services while conveying government related information.

The department of Electronics & Communication technology has released the details of the policy on usage of information technology:

Usage of private e-mail services must be avoided while working on government internet websites. For official government related communications, e-mails must be sent through NIC (National Information Council) approves set-ups for sending e-mails.

The usage of private e-mail services are thoroughly barred for sending or forwarding government-related information.

This policy is applicable to all government employees (central, state, and Union territories) using the government operated e-mail services.

As per this new policy, each government employee will be given 2 e-mail ids one bearing their designation and the other bearing their names. The name id can be used for sending private mails.

Edward Snowden had complained about the US spy agencies accessing the internet information of several countries including India with the help of e-mail service providers. The latest policy is the measure taken on this complaint.
