Subrahmanyam Jaishankar appointed as Foreign Secretary

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary. Currently Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is India`s Ambassador to the United States. It is understood that he will take up the post of Foreign Secretary today. The surprise announcement was made after a meeting of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is replacing Sujatha Singh.
Sujatha Singh`s two-year tenure was to end in August this year.
