Central government is considering about reducing the solar power installation subsidy to 15% from the current 30%.
The cost fixing a roof-top solar power panel is about Rs. 80000/-. Out of this, 30% subsidy is provided by the central government. State government gives a subsidy of Rs. 20000/-.
Currently, central government is exploring the possibilities of reducing this subsidy from 30% to 15%.
Central governments department of Unconventional Energy Sources has issued a press release on this issue informing about the reduction of subsidy to 15% & linking this to bank accounts.
Schools, Hospitals, Old Age Homes, and government office premises are being given priority to install solar-powered stations as compared to the industries and commercial complexes.
However, this measure is opposed by the consumers forums that the reduction in subsidy will reduce the efforts to opt for solar power.
A capacity of 285 MW of solar-power roof installations has been installed so far throughout the country. In Tamil Nadu, the total installed solar-power capacity is 50 MW.
