Central Government of India has decided to sell medicines at low price in all the medical shops in India under the scheme Jan Aushadhi. The Department of Pharmaceuticals has included in the first list 350 medicines used for therapy for six categories - diabetes, respiratory, gastro, cardiac ailments, anti-infectives and analgesics.

Experts from the AIIMS, CGHS, DCGI, Delhi, FDA and BPPI selected the 350 from 1000 top selling medicines after eliminating five patented drugs used to treat diabetes. The second list has 105 medicines that includes drugs for the above therapy groups and are already under the BPPI and JAS list but not part of the 350 medicines in the first list.
