TRAI Chairman has announced that full effort would be taken to provide broadband facility for 2.5 Lakh Gram Panchayats before the end of 2016.
Mr. Rahul Kullar, TRAI Chairman, informed that there are 2.5 Lakh Gram Panchayats in India. TRAI has started taking efforts to provide broadband internet facility to all these Panchayats. The project cost is estimated at Rs. 20,100 Crores.
With India moving rapidly ahead in internet usage across the world, this project is very much feasible. The project is also not that much complicated.
In the 1st Phase, all 4 metros should be linked on the broadband. In the next phase, all major cities in the country should be linked to the 4 metros.
After this, the linkage should be extended to all Taluks & Gram Panchayats.
He expressed confidence that the project would be completed before 2016.
Already 2 private companies have been offering their broadband services. One of these private companies has advanced to be capable of provide broadband services across 80% of the districts. Hence, it may not be be difficult to extend
broadband facility to all gram Panchayats before 2016 as planned.
