The secretary of the Department of Technology, Mr. T. K. Ramachandran informed that internet services would be made available through Arasu Cable TV network in 1 or 2 months.
A conference on Digital Technology was conducted on Thursday, 4th September, in Chennai.
There are plans to provide high-speed broadband internet and other internet-related services through cable operators on Arasu Cable TV networks. As a first step, the company, �Railtel�, has come forward to provide internet services.
Presently, tests are being conducted at Vellore. It is expected that internet services will be gradually introduced throughout the state in 1 or 2 months.
Cable operators interested in including internet services will be invited and trained on internet services.
To avail the internet service through Arasu Cable TV network, the user needs to buy a modem only.
So far, the charges for the internet service provision have not been decided.
