TN allocates Rs 198cr for free-goat scheme

The Tamil Nadu state government has sanctioned Rs198.25 crore for purchase of 6 lakh goats to be distributed under a welfare scheme to 1.5 lakh poor families. Each goat, including its incidental expenses like feed, costs Rs 3,000, while Rs 150 has been sanctioned for payment of an insurance premium for each goat. With this, funds sought by the animal husbandry department have got administrative sanction.
