Construction of Porur flyover has been interrupted due to the presence of water pipeline in the location. This has been the reason for delay in construction for more than one year and is expected to continue for few more months too. The flyover construction is said to be a yearlong project. The work began in 2010 and the design got changed twice. The secondly proposed design is yet to get approved by the designs committee. The approval is expected in one month upon which tenders will be called for which would furthermore take time.
Speaking to an engineer working with the project, he said the reason of the delay to be the presence of a pipeline that of 600m length and of 1.5m width. The metro water department refused to remove the pipeline owing to lack of expertise in shifting them. There was no response from tenders too, he added. It is found that the pipeline shifting process will interrupt water supply and is not an easy task and hence, the design is being changed.
