Fuel pilferage is a major worry-challenge for the vehicle owners!
Most petrol bunks adopt different techniques to pilfer petrol while the customer comes for a fill.
Some petrol bunks go the extent of adulterating the petrol and diesel. This reduces the life of the vehicle engine apart from a huge increase in maintenance cost.

Further, the attendants in the petrol bunks also play a role in the pilferage by not supplying the ordered quantity.
Following a few precautionary steps can help prevent this fuel pilferage.
- Most drivers or other passengers in the car do not get out of the vehicle while filling petrol. So, they fail to notice whether the correct quantity is supplied. Hence, it is always important to get out of the vehicle and check whether the bunk attendant is filling the correct quantity each & every time. It is also important to check whether meter has been reset.
- Avoid conversation with other passengers while filling fuel. Even if the bunk attendant opens a conversation, ask to wait and focus on the checking the quantity.
- When switching the petrol meter on, the bunk employee will ask about the payment � Card or cash � and divert your attention. Remain focused on checking the filling. Once it is completes, you can make the payment.
- Ask the bunk assistant not to keep his hand on the pump nozzle. As the machines are self-operated, the pump nozzle will automatically switch off after filling the ordered quantity.
- After filling petrol, please check the receipt completely. Especially, check the quantity and if it is correct, then make the payment.
- Park your vehicle at a slightly longer distance from the pump. This will ensure that there is no fold or blocks in the pipe and the full quantity will be smoothly transferred to your vehicle tank.
- Try to know more about the different petrol/diesel bunks and familiarize. Try to become a regular customer after establishing goo contact ensuring the reliability.
- If you notice any malpractices regarding service or measurement, get the complaint register from the bunk manager and fill the details. Most bunks keep a regular check on the complaint register and take necessary corrective action immediately.
