Residents of Saidapet will soon be able to enjoy the upgraded Amma Park on Kodambakkam Road, as the renovated facility is set to reopen this week after remaining closed for nearly 10 months. The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) carried out the redevelopment project at a cost of ₹2.91 crore.

The renovated park now features modern play equipment, upgraded walking and jogging tracks, a refurbished fountain, badminton and skating facilities, exercise equipment, seating areas, toilet facilities, and a small science park. Installation of CCTV cameras and final cleaning works are currently underway before the official inauguration.

The park, which was closed in August 2025 for renovation, was a popular recreational space attracting nearly 1,000 visitors daily before its closure. Residents, especially senior citizens and children, have eagerly awaited its reopening, as it serves as an important green space for walking, exercise, and leisure activities in the neighbourhood.

With schools reopening and summer temperatures continuing, residents believe the upgraded Amma Park will provide a much-needed recreational destination for families and fitness enthusiasts in Saidapet.
