Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a 13.5-km four-lane elevated corridor from Thiruvanmiyur to Uthandi along the East Coast Road (ECR). The project will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹2,100 crore.

The foundation ceremony was held near the Marundeeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmiyur in the presence of Highways Minister E.V. Velu and senior officials.

The proposed elevated corridor aims to ease congestion on the busy ECR stretch, which handles nearly 70,000 vehicles daily. Despite the road being widened to six lanes, traffic movement remains slow due to vehicles entering from nearly 130 connecting side roads, particularly from interior residential areas.

Officials stated that the new facility will help motorists bypass traffic signals and significantly reduce travel time. The project is expected to be completed within three years.

Once operational, the elevated corridor is anticipated to improve traffic flow and enhance connectivity along the city’s coastal belt.
