Saint-Gobain India and IIT Madras Join Hands to Set Up Two Advanced Research Labs

Saint-Gobain India has partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) to establish two advanced research laboratories focused on sustainable construction materials, smart infrastructure and next-generation building technologies.

The three-year partnership is supported by a grant of ₹3.8 crore and aims to strengthen research capabilities while developing innovative solutions for India`s construction sector.

The two laboratories will be established at IIT Madras` Centre of Excellence on Technologies for Low-carbon and Lean Construction (TLC2):

DṚṢṬI Lab: Focuses on digital real-time sensing technologies for infrastructure.

CAREN Lab: Focuses on concrete admixture research for next-generation construction.

The initiative aims to address key industry challenges, including construction productivity, material efficiency, structural durability, sustainability and digital transformation.

Saint-Gobain CEO for Asia Pacific and India Region, Sreedhar N., and IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti highlighted the importance of combining industrial expertise with academic research to develop practical, low-carbon and sustainable construction solutions suited to India`s climate.

The collaboration is expected to accelerate the adoption of lightweight and sustainable construction technologies across India.
